What is Autofocus and PDAF technology in the Camera?
PDAF full form is Phase Detection AutoFocus. It is the type of autofocus technology in photography camera’s or Mobile Camera’s that autofocuses & takes photos faster.
What is Autofocus?
An autofocus (AF) optical system uses a sensor, a motor and a control system to focus on a manually or automatically selected point or area. Instead of a Motor, Autofocus has An electronic rangefinder; the modification of the optical system has to be done manually until indication.Autofocus methods are classified into 3 categories.ie.
What is PDAF?
PDAF is Passive Technology of Autofocus.Phase Detection AutoFocus technology uses a sensor placed in the light path which is created due to the mirror. Mainly PDAF Autofocus uses two sensor points which help to detect the actual phase difference in the light path which helps to find the exact distance. Then the lens moved to focus correctly perfect point before locking the focus. Some of the 4/3 lenses tend to pass this point & hunt for focus several times.
For eg. the 50mm f/2. Macro and all types of macro lenses tend to struggle to find focus. The another lens that tends to cycle back and forth around the focus point before locking is the Olympus 14-35mm f/2 lens. Phase Detection AutoFocus is currently the fastest method of focusing and is found on the top DSLRs from all brands.
